Archives for the month of: February, 2011

Sweet notebooks, cards, journals, and art panels from Jill Bliss are now in store. Filled with exquisite detail and beautiful colour, these printed paper gems bring alive the native flora and fauna of northern California and Oregon – Jill’s home states. They are such a welcome and delightful addition to the Frond shelves!

Cyclone Carlos seems to have made his wild way out of Darwin for now and, though soggy, the Star Village is bustling with post Carlos activity as everyone recovers from being cooped up at home and a couple of rather tense nights! Terrible to see those huge, beautiful trees fallen but if the worst I have to deal with is negotiating the crater-like potholes on Bagot Road then I’ll count myself lucky. I hope you are all similarly unscathed. As always, Frond offers therapy of the retail kind to those of you suffering severe cabin fever and the new delivery of Angus & Celeste earrings has survived its stormy trip north and now fills the store with the sweet glow of handmade loveliness for your lobes!

Due to the rather exciting weather we’re having today, Frond will be closed. Hope all you Darwin Frondettes are staying cosy and dry!

Jacques Henri Lartigue, Bibi, Arlette and Irène. Storm in Cannes. Cannes, May 1929.

It was such a thrill to be visited by the Chung Wah Society’s Dragon and Lion troupe on Saturday. It was a fantastic atmosphere in the Star Village and the lion did a very thorough circuit of the shop and dispatched the Frond lettuce with great enthusiasm! I love the way the troupe shares this very ancient Chinese tradition so generously with the greater community – it was a real kick to be part of it!

I’m excited to be receiving a visit from the Chung Wa Society’s lion tomorrow to bless the shop and bring good luck for the Year of the Rabbit! I’ll be sure to bring a big, fresh lettuce for him. Sounds like the Year of the Rabbit is going to be a good one. I particularly love this description of the rabbit and hope that, in this guise, he hops often into Frond over the next year: “With his soft speech and graceful and nimble ways, the rabbit symbolizes graciousness, good manners, sound counsel, kindness, and sensitivity to beauty”. Aww.

The beautiful photograph is by the talented Myan at Sixthandmain via Female Photographers of Etsy.

French designer, Valérie Gregori McKenzie, works magic with cotton and colour. Her ethically and sustainably produced Song range (designed in France, created under Fair Trade conditions in Vietnam) includes delicately embellished boiled cotton maxis, light-as-a-feather cotton tissue tunics, and hand-dyed, easy cut linen dresses. Divine.

Iconic blogger Scott Schuman’s ‘The Sartorialist’ book is now available at Frond. For style, inspiration, and eye-candy, look no further. To see Mr Schuman at work, click here.

For their elegance, charm, beauty, humour, or just flat-out gorgeousness, here are a few of my own favourite sartorially fabulous guys and girls. All pics, naturally, by Scott Schuman.

Frond is very happy to welcome these little porcelain gems from Mrs Peterson Pottery. They are filling the store with sweet chirps and chirrups already! These and more from this delightful range are available in store now.

Hollywood hottie, Jessica Alba, is resplendent in armfuls of Dinosaur Designs bangles (Elle magazine). Find your own from a new selection now available at Frond.
